Every submission should adhere to the journal format and style, legibly written in good English, comprehensive, concise and complete. It is essential that author(s) should prepare the manuscript according to journal’s instructions. Failure to follow them may result in papers being delayed or rejected. Therefore, contributors are strongly encouraged to read these instructions carefully before preparing a manuscript for submission and the manuscripts should be checked carefully for grammatical errors too.

1. CONSIDERATION OF MANUSCRIPT

All manuscripts for publication will be considered on their individual merits. The manuscripts will be subjected to “peer review”. The manuscripts will be sent to reviewers/referees and their comments along with the editorial board’s decision will be forwarded to the corresponding author for necessary action. The final decision to accept an article rests with Editor-in-Chief/Managing Editor who reserves the right to make alterations in manuscripts. Prior and duplicate publications are not allowed. Publication of abstract under conference proceedings will not be considered as prior publication. Author(s) must be careful when they reproduce text, tables or illustrations (figures and graphs) from other sources. Plagiarism will be viewed seriously.

2. PLAGIARISM

The authors should note that-

Copying verbatim text, tables or illustrations from any source (published or unpublished material) and passing it as ones own is considered plagiarism whether or not a reference to the copied portion is given.

Listing the source of copied material under ‘References’ does not absolve the authors of plagiarism.

If a few lines of text are to be reproduced from any source, ‘the author(s)’ and ‘the source’ must be clearly indicated in the text. To reproduce large portions of text, permission from the copyright owner(s) must be obtained and submitted to JIGYASA.

To reproduce tables or illustrations, permission from the copyright owner(s) must be obtained and a copy of the permission letter must be submitted to JIGYASA. The source must be clearly acknowledged below the table or illustration as required by the copyright owner(s).

3. Copyright policy

Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are required to sign an agreement transferring the copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. Agreement can be downloaded from Journal’s website:www.unmesh.org.in.

4. EXPERIMENTS ON HUMANS AND ANIMALS

JIGYASA insists on ethical practices in both human and animal experiments. A statement on ethics committee permission and ethical practices must be given under the ‘Materials and Methods’ section in the research articles involving experiments on humans or animals. Evidence for approval by a local Ethics Committee must be supplied by the authors on demand. Animal experimental procedures should be as humane as possible. Experiments on human subjects are to be done in accordance with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) protocol, or approved by an Institutional Human Ethics Committee (IHEC). However, the ethical standards of experiments on animals must be in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA) constituted by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, or approved by an Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) as per the guidelines of CPCSEA.

6. PREPARATION OF THE MANUSCRIPT

All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, single-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. The author(s) should prepare the manuscript(s) as short as possible. The manuscript should be on A4 size with at least 1.5 cm margins on all sides. Page numbers should be given accordingly, beginning with the title page. The manuscript should be prepared in MS Word in Times New Roman font (for articles in English) using a font size of 14, bold face capitals for ‘Title’. However, all ‘Headings’ in the manuscript should be in font size 12, bold face capitals; and the ‘Subheading’ in each section should be in font size 12, bold face lower case. The language of manuscript must be simple and explicit. For Hindi and Sanskrit articles, prepare manuscript in MS Word in Kruti Dev font using a font size of 16; for titles and subtitles use font size of 18(bold). Standard International Units should be used. Authors should also supply a short-ended version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more than 200 words and avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text.

If the generic names of plants or animals are written, they must be italic. Footnotes should be avoided as far as possible. Essential footnotes may, however, be indicated by super scribed asterisk mark (*). The number of structural formulae should be restricted to the bare minimum. Wherever the purpose is adequately served by giving chemical or common names, these should be given. For enzymes, only the trivial names recommended by the IUPAC-IUB Commission should be used. In some cases, where the enzyme is the main subject of a paper, its code number and systematic name should also be stated at its first citation in the paper. Standard International practices for abbreviations should be used in the text and illustrations.

To identify the most important subjects covered by the article, 3-6 keywords should be provided. The words found in title need not be given as key words. Use scientific/technical terms but a more general term may be used if a suitable scientific/technical term is not available.

A. Original Research Article/paper

An Original Research Article/paper should be arranged into the following sections:

  • Covering Letter
  • Title Page
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Introduction
  • Materials and Methods
  • Results and Discussion
  • Acknowledgments (not mandatory)
  • References
  • Tables, if any
  • Figures/graphs, if any (with Legends)

Title Page: This page should include the names, affiliations, and addresses of all authors and the name, complete address, e-mail address, telephone number and fax number of the corresponding author.

References: The reference list should be double-spaced in a separate section at the end of the manuscript. Cite all references within the text by number (full sized; not superscript). Do not use Ibid. op cit., or include annotations with the references. (Handle annotations as footnotes to the text discussion.) Include in the reference list only those cited in the text. Samples of reference styles follow:

Journals: List all authors (do not use et al.) in inverted style (last name followed by first initials); journal (standard abbreviation); year of publication, volume number; issue number (in parentheses); inclusive pages (or ''in press'' if not yet published). Example: Smith A.B. Crohn's disease: transmission electron microscopic studies. Hum Pathol 2001; 12:16-29.

Books: List all authors or all authors of chapter referred (do not use et al.) in inverted style (last name followed by first initials); full chapter title; all book editors (if a book includes articles of different authors) (inverted style) followed by ''ed.'' or ''eds.''; book title; edition number if applicable (e.g., 3rd ed.); city and state; publisher; 4-digit year of publication; inclusive pages of the chapter. Example: Reddy, C.D., Hayes, A.W. Food-Borne Toxicants. In: Hayes, A.W., ed. Principles and Methods of Toxicology. 4th ed. Philadelphia, Taylor and Francis. 2000, 491-530.

Meetings or conferences: Clark E.A., Kuller L., Tsai C.C. Transmission of the molecular clone in macaques, 8th Annual Symposium on Nonhuman Primate Models for AIDS, New Orleans, LA, Nov 28-30, 2001.

Government publications: Hothem, R., DeHaven, R. Bird Damage to Crops, 1980-1981, Fish and Wildlife Technical Report 15; U.S. Department of the Interior: Washington, DC. 1988,1-11.

Electronic publications: http://publish.aps.org/abstract/PRD/v61/e010303 (accessed June 2000).

Tables and Figures. Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. Figures should be completely labeled and short descriptive captions should appear above each table with a clear legend, and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included.

TABLES:

Tables should be typed on separate sheet of paper without text matter on the page. Only MS word table format should be used. Tables should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals and should bear brief self-explanatory title. Column headings should be brief. Units of measurement should be abbreviated and placed below the headings. Tables should not be very large that they run more than one A4 sized page. Negative results or absence of a datum should be indicated as by a dash. Inclusion of structural formulae inside the tables should be avoided.

FIGURES/GRAPHS:

Illustrations (figures and graphs) should be on separate pages but not inserted within the text, and they should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals and bear a brief self-explanatory title in lower case bold face letters. Illustrations should be referred to in the text by numbers. The photomicrographs must show good contrast and their magnification should either be mentioned directly on them using a bar, or explained in the legend. Symbols, arrows or letters used in photomicrographs should contrast with the background. Graphic files for diagrams and figures may be converted to *.jpg format. Line drawings should be made in Indian ink on white drawing paper (preferably Bristol board), cellophane sheet or tracing paper. For satisfactory reproduction, the graphs and line drawings should be drawn to approximately twice the printed size. The size of letters, numbers, dots, lines, etc. should be sufficiently large to permit reduction to page size (178 mm), without loss of detail.

Soft copies of Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines: 300 dpi or higher; sized to fit on journal page; EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only; submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:

Sources of support in the form of grants (financial support), equipment, drugs, etc. as gift samples may be included. Only scientific or technical personnel who have made substantial and essential contributions to the study should be acknowledged. References to brand names obtained for research may not be referred in the text.

Color Reproduction. Color art will be reproduced in color in the online publication at no additional cost to the author. Color illustrations will also be considered for print publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Please note that color reprints can only be ordered if print reproduction costs are paid. Request editor in chief for the details of the rate.

B. REVIEW ARTICLES

The authors should review the recent trends or advances in that field in the light of their own work. Thus, the ‘Review Articles’ should bring up the most important current topics or present interpretative and critical accounts, but not simple compilation, on subjects of general interest. Authors are advised to search Medline and other databases on the Internet, apart from collecting information using conventional methods. These articles should contain a covering letter, title page, summary (need not be structured) and key words, and may be around 12 pages. They should be written under appropriate sub-headings. The authors can use flowcharts, boxes, cartoons, tables and figures. Other details are given under the ‘Preparation of Manuscript’ and ‘Original Research Article’.

C. SHORT COMMUNICATIONS

They should present new important findings in a brief form, a maximum of 5 pages in all. Other things remain the same as described above under the ‘Preparation of Manuscript’ and ‘Original Research Article’.

D. LETTER TO EDITOR/CORRESPONDENCE

This may either be a small research communication or a commentary on a contemporary issue or remarks/queries on a recently published article in Jigyasa.

7. Complimentary Policy

Each corresponding author of an article will receive a PDF file of the article via email. This file is for personal use only and may not be copied and disseminated in any form without prior written permission from Editor in Cheif of JIGYASA. However to get the copy of Jigyasa the author has to subscribe Jigyasa or he can purchase reprints as described in section PROCESSING FEE AND REPRINTING CHARGES & Subscription Charges.

8. REVISED MANUSCRIPT

The author(s) should revise the manuscript immediately after receipt of the comments from the Editor/Referee. The revised manuscript has to be submitted through E-mail or as hard copy within the stipulated time. Calling for revision does not guarantee the acceptance of paper. A revised manuscript which underwent major changes is likely to be sent to referees for re-review.

9. PROOFS

The ‘Galley proofs’ are generally not sent to authors to avoid delay. Author(s) should ensure that the data submitted for publication are error-free. The reprints are not supplied, however, the PDF file of the article can be accessed through Unmesh’s Website: www.Unmesh.org.in after its publication.
